Senior Commissioning Project Manager

ABP is looking to hire an exceptional Senior Commissioning Project Manager to join our growing firm. ABP is a nationally recognized independent commissioning and energy optimization consulting firm. We are dedicated to assisting building owners, developers, and design teams in the design, construction, and management of high-performance buildings. ABP’s projects cover large commercial developments, high profile and government projects, academic buildings, and more throughout the Mid-Atlantic area. ABP operates as a 12-person virtual company, with staff working from home throughout Maryland, Virginia, and DC, and meeting in person monthly.

Job Description

ABP has an immediate opening for a Senior Commissioning Project Manager with at least 8+ years experience in project management, commissioning field work, and HVAC, Plumbing, ATC controls or building envelope systems. The Senior Commissioning Project Manager will serve as a valuable technical resource, manage multiple concurrent projects, and perform building commissioning services for both new construction and existing facilities for commercial, institutional, and educational buildings. The Senior Commissioning Project Manager will work closely in a team environment on multiple projects, but must be able to work independently and adhere to schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an Accredited University or College is required.

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience performing Commissioning services for HVAC, Electrical, or Building Envelope systems.

  • Commissioning Certification by either BCxA, ASHRAE, AGC, ICB/TABB, AEE, or University of Wisconsin is required.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

  • Experience in managing concurrent commissioning projects is required.

  • Experience with construction site work activity conditions and safety protocols is required.

  • Strong understanding of relevant technical standards: ASHRAE, ASME, SMACNA, IBC, others

  • Demonstrated ability in technical problem solving, self-directed, detail-oriented, organized, and able to adapt to dynamic project.

  • Ability to build and maintain positive work relationships with the project team, vendors, contractors, and owners.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time to project construction sites in the Mid-Atlantic (Maryland, Virginia, and DC mainly).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare Commissioning Specifications, Plans, Reports, and other commissioning documentation. 

  • Manage and track project schedules to ensure project milestones are met, and serve as the primary interface with the clients, owners, and contractors.

  • Evaluate and apply commissioning requirements and construction specifications on HVAC and electrical equipment and systems.

  • Develop commissioning checklists for installation verification and functional performance testing of equipment and integrated systems

  • Ability to independently create or review test script procedures based on Contract Documents, Owner’s Project Requirements and Basis of Design, and Industry and standards-based best practices.

  • Witness, supervise, or conduct technical fieldwork as needed, including functional performance testing of HVAC systems for hospitals; perform field verification of equipment installation and startups; and assist in troubleshooting of commissioned equipment and systems when appropriate.

  • Interface with design and construction team members to ensure commissioning activities are incorporated, and commissioning issues are addressed. Effectively filtering and managing documentation is a key element of the commissioning process.

  • Participate in Owner and Construction team meetings as required.

  • Supervise and provide technical and technical expertise to other field technicians when on-site.

  • Perform, coordinate and manage, field work with ABP commissioning staff working on your projects. This will include, but not limited to, site observation visits, witnessing system testing, performance verification, etc.

  • Collaborate with ABP’s other Project Managers to plan and staff your projects.

  • Utilize the commissioning software CxAlloy and BlueRithm, and maintain project issues log.

  • Review invoicing.

  • Conduct training for ABP’s commissioning specialists.

  • Participate in firm's marketing and business development activities as needed.
