Commissioning Specialist

ABP is looking to hire an exceptional Commissioning Specialist to join our growing firm. ABP is a nationally recognized independent commissioning and energy optimization consulting firm. We are dedicated to assisting building owners, developers, and design teams in the design, construction, and management of high-performance buildings. ABP’s projects cover large commercial developments, high profile and government projects, academic buildings, and more throughout the Mid-Atlantic area. ABP operates as a 10-person virtual company, with staff working from home throughout Maryland, Virginia, and DC, and meeting in person monthly.

Job Description

ABP has an immediate opening for a Commissioning Specialist. The position being offered is for a graduate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineer with a strong interest in building systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Controls), and desire to be part of the solution to climate change. Through their course work, project work, and any internships, the candidate should be able to demonstrate effective problem solving, data analysis, and great communication skills. We do not expect the applicant to be an expert in building systems, but exposure to HVAC or Electrical design/construction will be an advantage.

The Commissioning Specialist will serve as a valuable member of our team, working on multiple concurrent projects performing building commissioning services for both new construction and existing commercial, institutional, and educational buildings. The Commissioning Specialist will work closely in a team environment on multiple projects, but must be able to work independently when required, and adhere to schedules. The Commissioning Specialist will be partnered with one of our Senior Commissioning Specialists or Project Managers so that on-the-job training will begin immediately. Training will be provided through mentored site visits, on-line video calls (more face-to-face work pending relaxed COVID restrictions), company training events, and other professional development available through ASHRAE and the Building Commissioning Association.

  • Mechanical Graduate: Understanding of the fundamentals in HVAC, hydronics, automatic temperature controls and renewable energy systems.
